Shacks at the beach

Where we stayed in Charleston is near a resort called the Isle of Palms along the coast. It was developed by the same folk who developed Hilton Head Island we passed through days ago, so it has similar restrictions. Access to the beach, if you can achieve it, involves great effort. And there are no waves.

But you could save yourself even bothering with that discovery, and simply join the endless line of cars just driving the road that extends down the island spine--ogling the houses that do occupy that waterfront. Though some are across that road and don't have a view of anything other than the road, but still they build them so.

There are mile on mile of these beach shacks of the wealthy. Weekenders, many. These are just a few. All prone to storm surges, hurricanes, sand erosion and flooding.

Good taste is not a prerequisite, either
